This project was an exploration of a single sample, trying to restrict myself to a single track and a single take played live. Two of the three small pieces are the results of several attempts towards this goal. One is an account of the failure of this experiment. I feel like I have to write something about it, or it wouldn't stand on its own.

The material from which the loop comes from is ambiguous to me, sometimes there is a mournful beauty, and sometimes it's verging on tacky, new age empty spirituality. Meaning is fragile. I wanted to take the loop and through repetition see what would remain. It's in this limit that what is revealed is not the deeper meaning of the material, but my own reflection on it. The version here was recorded just before the moment I couldn't listen to the loop anymore, maybe this is why it's so short. The other two pieces are the same loop on two different breaking points, in one the material is distorted almost to the point of pure noise, and then echoed through the clean version. In the last piece I did the reverse: a clean version reverberates though the distorted one.

Repetition creates meaning, but sometimes it reveals the meaninglessness that is the material from which meaning is built from.
